jvm
Hi Does anyone know what happens to our state pension once we move to Australia? We have a few working years still ahead of us but just wondered about all the years we've worked in the UK! Many thanks Val
Life on easy street
You to have to contact government work & pension to check if you have made sufficient number of years contributions to claim a full state pension. You are allowed to make voluntary contributions make up the time you spend in Australia. It is open to debate as to whether this is good idea. It is my understanding that. One down side is that once you start collecting U.K state pension in Australia it is frozen at that rate for the rest of your life even though pensioners in the U.K will receive the normal annual increases in state pension. I hope i am wrong on this one.
