Hi,

My 10 year old daughter has pancreatitis and I am wondering if this will impact negatively on a medical. She has been stable for years and has yearly check up with consultant. Her medication is similar to that prescribed for cystic fibrosis. What do you think? We were on holiday in Oz when Downs Syndrome case came to light and listened with interest as it was debated. I am going to complete visa application myself so don't have any agent advice - if we will get turned down, I'd rather know now?

Any advice appreciated thanks

Jo

I am by no means an expert but a best guess ( and that is all that it is)....would be that as long as everything is stable and well conttrolled you may very well be ok!

I am epileptic , which is a chronic condition. I am well controlled and had had no seizures in 5 years when I came here. Sailed through the medical!

Thankyou - I never thought I would be in a position where we could apply for a visa but following our trip, it seems to be green lights from OH. Its only now that I'm thinking about all the possible blockers that could arise. You will probably see me posting all kinds of weird stuff in the coming weeks! I'm glad your condition has not caused you any problems since you've been there. I really believe that Jess will continue to make good progress if we move. Fingers crossed.

ps If any of my friends see this, don't tell the family yet!

My son (2) has Hirschsprungs Disease and he is here. When he had his medical we took a letter from his consultant. We were asked about his condition and how it affects him and what procedures he had had etc. They examined his scar and that was about it.

Like Cal says there is no point in saying dont worry because you will, I was a nightmare!! lol

Cal was there for me also and I can say it does help to speak with someone who has gone through similar!!

Good luck, please pm me if you want a chat.

Hi Jo

Don't read too much into Dr Moeller's case. He was in Oz and had applied for an employer-sponsored PR visa, plus he has the Press and public sympathy clout because he is a doctor.

The Minister has potentially opened Pandora's Box and I am not sure whether he realises that - or what he plans to do when the next child comes along because that will happen and the Minister will have a heck of a job on his hands if he treats the next family differently from the way he has treated Dr Moeller. What if Senator Evans drowns during a dip in the sea and his successor is not quite so generously-minded with Ministerial Interventions?

The Dr Moeller decision creates major uncertainty about what the Law actually is. That is never a good thing in the end.

I don't know anything about cystic fibrosis or pancreatitis unfortunately. The issue will be whether your daughter will be able to live a completely independent, tax-paying life when she grows up? If "Yes" then there is no reason to suppose that she will be knocked back on the meds.

Best wishes

Gill
