Arriving in Melbourne alone

Hi All,

I might be a bit early with this post, but i'm scheduled to arrive in Melbourne on 01Mar09 and i'm planning on living in Mount Waverley (City of Monash). As with most people/families i'm a little concerned about arriving in a city so far away from the UK and being a total stranger. The mere thought of it sends my feet cold.

I'm 35 and i like to think i'm pretty out-going so it would be really good to know if there is anybody near(ish) to where i'm going to start my new life. I'm well into my music, sports, eating out, and general socialising so would love to hear from anyone with similar interests, or just an open mind who wouldn't mind getting together.

If there is anyone who has also arrived in Oz alone and has any tips on how to settle in then it'd be good to hear from you.

Look forward to any replies.

Thanks, Phil (35)

I can't believe it....i posted that message early November and have since completely forgotten about it. Thanks for the replies people it's good to know that there are many other people in the same situation as myself.

I've only got just over 2 weeks to go at the time is diminshing rapidly. At the moment i'm not quite sure what's going on, i just hope i've got all my loose ends tied up.

Hi Emily,

Thanks for the reply, i'm actually flying out from Manchester on the 01Mar09 via Heathrow/Hong Kong and so am due to arrive on 02Mar09. Visa needs validating by the 05Mar so i haven't left myself much time. Yes, it's good to know there's someone available to have a drink with once things get sorted and settle down.

Hi David,

The 16th May isn't too far away. The next couple of months will fly by. I'm more than happy to meet up for a bevvie with you when you get youself over. Which part of Melbourne are you locating to?

Oh.. and cheers to 'Ourblade' and Nic for the info. I'll be in touch once i get myself settled in.
