:nah: WARNING: NEWBIE HERE!!

Hello,

ACS Help required please!?

Background Info:-

I'm an IT Manager/Network Admin with 10 years experience(7 as a Manager). I have an IT Technician diploma from 1998 and I did a 4 week intensive MCSA 2000 but didn't take the exams.

Starting to think about emmigrating and would like to try for the golden 175 Visa.

Dumb Questions:-

What's the best ACS code to apply for ACS assesment? Or do they asses you and tell you which code/s you fit into?

Any tips or pitfall warnings for a newbie looking to emmigrate in the next 12-18 months?

Greatly appreciated...

With the brief information you have provided I'd be looking at having to submit an RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) skills assessment (based on your work experience rather than your qualifications). This is a very lengthy process and will require you to submit very detailed information about your career.

The best option in terms of nominating an occupation is to nominate one of the MODL specialisations, as this will give you bonus points. To be assessed in one of the MODL specialisations, though, you will have to provide at least 1 year worth of evidence of work experience.

Here are the specialisations:

Computing Professional - specialising in CISSP * 2231-79

Computing Professional - specialising in C++/C#/C * 2231-79

Computing Professional - specialising in Data Warehousing 2231-79

Computing Professional - specialising in Java * 2231-79

Computing Professional - specialising in J2EE * 2231-79

Computing Professional - Linux 2231-79

Computing Professional - .Net technologies 2231-79

Computing Professional - specialising in Network Security/Firewall/Internet Security * 2231-79

Computing Professional - specialising in Oracle * 2231-79

Computing Professional - specialising in PeopleSoft * 2231-79

Computing Professional - specialising in SAP * 2231-79

Computing Professional - specialising in SIEBEL *

(especially Siebel Analytic) 2231-79

Computing Professional - Solaris 2231-79

Computing Professional - Unix

In any event, if the ACS do not agree with the occupation you have nominated they will assess you for an occupation they consider to be more suitable. So this is not what you should be worrying about. Your main concern should be to put together a strong RPL application.

Hi there Steve, I was in a similar situation when I decided to apply, but I used the 176 route and got sponsorship through the State of Victoria. Best bet, as per my own experience, is to pre-load as much information with your application for a visa, which means, in essence, getting everything sorted out well in advance of the actual visa application. For example, get certified copies of every piece of paper you're going to need, e.g. Birth Certificate, Personal Details page from your passport, Uni diplomas, and especially police clearance records, which take some time to process. Also, start the skills assessment process at the same time since it's going to take about two months.

Next step is to apply for your visa once the skills assessing authority has assigned you a case number, e.g. don't wait for the completed assessment, and after submitting the visa application immediately upload scanned copies of all your certified documentation.

Lastly, stock the fridge with the beer of your choosing, and settle in the for the long wait before a case officer gets assigned.

Cheers!
