beng
I'm looking into an 870 visa for a 60yo parent (in the 143 queue, but looks unlikely to land for 4-5 years). Two questions for the brains trust here: 1) Is there anything prohibiting an 870 holder from undertaking a TAFE course while holding this visa? Obviously a student visa would be cheaper, but owing to age and the pending 143, meeting "genuine temporary entrant" requirement seems unlikely (and I suppose that denial wouldn't do the 143 any favours). 2) Would [unpaid] "work placement" comply with the "8103 - No paid work condition"? At face value, this seems obvious - but nothing is as simple as it seems with Immigration They want to up skill to a disability care cert III (for volunteering purposes) wherein TAFE places them in unpaid "work placement" for 120hrs. immi.gov.au's description of 8103 says "You are not allowed to undertake work in Australia." and work is subsequently defined as "performing an activity in Australia a person would normally be remunerated for" but then explicitly EXCLUDES "seeing how people work in an industry". Would a TAFE work placement be covered by that last exclusion?
