OOW
Hi, Slightly random - but I have an estranged child that I have never met (Long, sad story but clearly not dependant on me for anything). Its left me in a position where I am not entirely sure how to answer the question 'Are there any non-migrating members of your family unit'... I found the following definition on the 1496i form : Your child or stepchild is considered to be dependent if they continue to be wholly or substantially reliant on you for their basic needs (food, clothing and shelter). Which has led me to believe the child isn't a member of my family unit? Any ideas/thoughts??
ali
I would put them down and provide an explanation that that the are estranged, you have no contact etc., The view is that non migrating children may want to be re-united e.g. separated partnership and something happening to one of the paretns.
