Taff
I will return to the UK in Jan 2018. I have a house there which I can move straight back into. Has anyone any experience of setting up utilities, (electricity, water, phone, internet, etc,) before returning, or will I have to await being back there before doing so? Thanks in advance, Taff
Phil & Vikki
Have you been renting it out and if so are there anyone in it at the moment?
Taff
Have been renting it out, vacant at present, and will be until I return.
Phil & Vikki
Our understanding is that if it is vacant and you can get the meter readings, you can give them to the utility providers (phone & water) and should be able to take over the bills. If it is empty now who is paying the bills, the agents? When our place was empty the tenants gave the last meter readings and then it went back into our name until renter out again. Think the internet/phone may be different as there will need to be someone there to let them in to connect. At least with the place empty and not getting any rental income, you will only have a bit of income to declare on your Oz tax this year then, that is one good thing. Taff
Cheers P&V, I'm going to have to cover the bills while it is empty, but they shouldn't be too onerous.

Do you have it insured and have you told them it is unoccupied and I would recommend getting the H and Cold and heating systems drained down. Taff
It is insured, but I will have to change that insurance to "unoccupied property" insurance. Thanks for the draining tip.
