Obtaining Qualifications and Experience Points

Hello

 

Please could someone help confirm the process for attaining points in the following categories (Software Engineer - 261313):

 

• Qualifications (15 Points):  At least a bachelor degree from an Australian educational institution or other degree of a recognised standard
• Skilled Employment (15 Points): In skilled employment for at least eight and up to 10 years (of the past 10 years)

 

For Qualifications I understand that these are dependent on the ACS evaluation. In my case I assume:

• Bachelor Degree or Higher with an ICT Major which is closely related
• 2 Years in last 10 Years OR 4 Years in total work experience (anytime)

Does this mean I get 15 points?

How are the points allocated, with regards to the 2 or 4 years work experience deduction?

 

For Skilled employment: is this based on the ACS evaluation? How is the experience verified by DIBP or is this the purpose of the ACS evaluation.

i.e. Does the ACS evaluation influence both Qualifications and Skilled employment points.

There is no simple answer to your question.

Any recognised degree in any discipline is good for 15 points from the DIBP.

Whether a degree is assessed as comparable to an Australian degree is not a matter for the ACS. The ACS refers to the CEP.

Whether the content of a degree meets the ACS criteria is a matter for the ACS.

The ACS will assess both pre and post qualification work experience and will offer an opinion about what they consider to be relevant work experience points for work experience completed after both their academic and relevant work experience criteria were satisfied. This opinion is not binding on the DIBP.

If work experience evidence does not meet the strict ACS criteria, that work experience stands to be cited by the ACS as not relevant, even if it was.

If you work through the requirements listed on the ACS website and you are still not clear, I suggest you consult a registered migration agent with ACS experience for an assessment. S/he would need to review your academic transcripts and employment certification//duty statements.

Hi, Just looking to submit my EOI having completed my first year as a teacher! And finally passed the IELTS on my 3rd attempt..Wahoo! (Phew!)

Ermm, as I only have officially one year teaching experience, do I select "Yes" for "Related Employement" even though I will not get points for this. For the rest of the jobs I have done prior I selected no. By selecting yes, on the final summary screen it highlights, English Language, Education and Employment as the categories which will award me points.

Question: Does that mean I should select No for related employment for my most recent/current employment this past year from sept16 - now? As I am not eligible for any points through employment.

Have you completed your skills assessment, that usually says if the employment is relevant or not. If it is relevant, select yes. The EOI automatically updates when you change point bands for work experience, age etc, so get it in and let the wait begin

I didnt complete my full year until end of july. My skills assessment was completed and dates may 2017 so it will not be on there as 'officially' relevant.
I spoke to a random agent and they said to keep it simple and select 'Not relevant' as it does not affect the points total anyway.
