We're looking at getting regional work after the first part of the trip to get that out the way and had a few questions.... any recommendations for places to stay things to see in Melbourne? any tips for seeing the Sydney fireworks for new year (also my 30th birthday ?) Others have given you good advice about transferring money. Why are you going to Melbourne? If it's to visit friends that's fine, but if not then I'm not sure it would be on my "must see" list for a WHV. It's a great place to LIVE, but it doesn't have a lot of tourist sights to see IMO. If you want to see the fireworks in Sydney, then you need to book your accommodation NOW. Everything gets extremely booked up around Christmas and New Year - hotels double their prices at least.
