Contributory parent visa 173 - conditions of stay for secondary applicant

My parents have just been granted their contributory visa 173 with my father as the primary applicant. Out of interest, does anyone know what would happen to my mother's visa (secondary visa applicant) if anything ever happened to my father? E.g. Would my mother have to apply for a visa in her own right if they were living in Australia and my father passed away?

Thank you!

Another question I have is that my mum is ready to come to Australia now whereas my fathers still working and not yet retired. Is my mum able to come and live in Australia now using her 173 visa and my dad come later in say another 6 months or so? Does it matter if my mum's not the primary applicant for their 173 visa, does she still have the same rights as the primary applicant to come and live here etc even if the primary applicant doesn't do the same?

I don't know the answer to that one - someone will though !

( just thinking if there's one main applicant & the other is classed as a dependent they might have to arrive together- but if their applications had to be separate then she could arrive independently)
