Visa medical - Heart murmur detected - effects?

Hi everyone :)

Just wondering if anyone can help me/reassure me!! Please!!!

We had our medicals done last week and were all clear except our ten year old son - it was picked up that he has a heart murmur. The Dr did imply that it is *probably* not an issue for our son health wise as he is otherwise thriving - but as a Mum - we panic!

Anyhow, the medicals have been submitted and the panel Dr didn't require or ask for any further tests for the murmur but said "they'll probably want to know what's causing it" (I assume he means the person who checks the medicals once submitted?

For our own piece of mind, we will be seeing our GP about the heart murmur anyway to ensure it is 100% innocent but my question is.......

Will this refer his medical?

What further info will they want if they ask? I assume an ECG or an ECHO?

Did anyone get a heart murmur picked up on the day of their medicals and did not get their medical referred?

How long (if it gets referred) approx does this hold up a (hopeful) visa grant??

Really would appreciate ANY help and/or reassurance! I know people have had visas granted with heart murmurs but what is the delay? Will this get referred?

Many thanks and seasons greetings to all!

I had a heart murmur during pregnancy. The GP had to advocate on my behalf (she did the official medical too) that I did not need to see a specialist, but they were pushing for it.

It's normally fine and heart murmurs are very common, my son has one too and we have been told it is nothing to worry about at all.

Thanks Sammy that's reassuring that they seem to be very common! Our GP has said its nothing to worry about but the panel Dr who found it seemed to make it a big deal. He said at the time (last Wednesday) that he will put the medicals through anyway....then yesterday I received a call from his receptionist asking whether I think they should submit my son's medical or if i wanted to attach any supporting documents to it! If the Dr had been more clear last week then I would have maybe arranged for an ecg or something but he said at the time "submit it and we'll see what they ask for"!! Anyhow, I'm pretty sure my son's medical will now get referred and it'll take ages to finalise now and they'll want all sorts of tests ran? Our agent said could be a three month wait - but rubbish as we foolishly booked flights for the beginning of Feb which I think will now go to waste!!

Have to laugh, practically everything that could have gone wrong in this process has gone wrong at some point! Perhaps a sign!!

anyhow thank you guys and merry Christmas :)

The opinions of GPs are given no weight. If an opinion is called for, it must come from an accredited specialist and for maximum effect follow a set format. You might want to consider taking advice about obtaining a cardiologist's report, even if further evidence is not called for.

Thank you, your advice is much appreciated.

I know for visa purposes that the GP's advice isn't counted - I just meant as a parent the GP's advice was reassuring - *parental panic* !! Wasn't nice hearing our oldest son isn't 100% healthy! The Dr who found it made it sound as though he'd need open heart surgery there and then when infact it is likely very innocent. He wasn't very nice to be honest but that's another issue.

We have already booked an appointment with a cardiology consultant for our own piece of mind to ensure the murmur is 100% innocent for our own piece of mind. It'll help too as we will have the reports and results if they are asked for.

I just wish the panel doctor would have held off submitting our medicals so we could have got the report back and attached it to the medicals so they could have all the information to hand - may have speeded things along?

Im not too worried anymore - as long as my son is healthy then the visa can take as long as it takes.

We decided that we will fly to Australia on a visitors visa in Feb and stay for a couple of weeks then spend a month in Bali as it'll be our 10th wedding anniversary too. Then hopefully the 189 visa will be granted while we are there - but if not, we'll

just come home and wait....or if it is granted in the meantime then even better :)

thank uou again, all of you, very helpful xx

That is actually not always the case. My GP (who was also the official practitioner for the PR medical) advised that a cardiologist's report was not necessary when they asked for one. Her opinion was given weight and as such no report was ever taken. Each case is different as we see time and time again.
