Adelaide to Brisbane, moving interstate questions

Recommended Posts

1, We're taking our cars what happens about registration and road worthy?

2, Can we keep with our SA driving licenses until they expire and just update the address?

3, Dog registration, paid in full for a year here. Do we ask for a refund and register in Brisbane?

4, We used a move cube to move to Adelaide. Been quoted $1,600 for a large cube inc insurance. Probably will go with that but do you know of a cheaper alternative?

Thanks in advance for any replies

Hi

We bought our car in Adelaide and it was a simple process to convert the plates and rego,, all the info is here - http://www.qld.gov.au/transport/registration/transfer/interstate/

If you move to Queensland from another state or territory, you must get Queensland registration and a Queensland driver licence. You have 14 days to register your vehicle in Queensland and may be fined if you don’t.When you register your vehicle in Queensland, you can apply to get a refund on the remaining part of your interstate registration. To do this, you need to hand in your interstate number plates at a transport and motoring customer service centre or, if you live in a rural area, a QGAP office,Magistrates Court or local police station that provides vehicle registration services.

You can use your current driving licence for up to 3 months ,then you must convert it to a QLD one if you are living in the State.

Im not 100% on the dog licence but to be honest here i pay around $50/60 pr year so probably not worth chasing for a rebate if you pay similar there. You have 14 days from the pets arrival to register it with your local council.

No idea on the Move Cube but that sounds pretty reasonable.

Hope this helps a bit
