Migration Queries

Hi all!!

My husband and I are are currently researching our options to migrate to Australia from the UK in the near future. My brother recently migrated and now has permanent residency.

Personally I have no formal education however I am a manager within a large corporate company in the the healthcare industry. My husband is a qualified aircraft electrician with 12 years experience in his trade.

Can anyone point us in the best direction for research on the first stage process please? We are struggling to make head way and we've recently read an article stating skilled migration may be being phased out.

Many Thanks

Lorna

Hi Lorna,

I wonder whether it's the three older visa subclasses being cancelled recently which has left a large number of applicants without visas that you have read about. As far as I am aware there is no intention to phase out general skilled migration, but I may be wrong. Do you have a link for the article?

With regards to your hope of applying, I think the closest match to your husbands occupation is 323111: AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE ENGINEER (AVIONICS) which is on the consolidated list and is open to applicants who are sponsored by NT, SA, & WA.

Does this sound like it might fit his occupation well?

Thank you for your response.

Here re is the article link it was published 25/09

Yes this is the classification we have been looking at however being such a specialised field dependant on aircraft type we are unsure if the best option is to approach potential employers in the first instance to enquire regarding demand for the trade. He currently has no civilian experience, his qualifications and additional vocation courses are all military affiliated.

Also we are not convinced on using a migration agent but the process seems overwhelming to even consider without one?

I would say in your case a good migration agent is going to be essential. Most good ones will do an initial assessment for free.

The other thing to think of though is jobs - even if you qualify for a visa, he may struggle to find work as it is VERY difficult for PR holders to get sufficient security clearance to work in military situations and equipment and often such roles require citizenship.

Thank you!

Yes we have thought and are researching job opportunities. We travel over in May on a tourist visa again and we are hoping to schedule some 'networking' opportunities with potential employers to source contacts.

Can you recommend a UK based agent that we may be able to contact?

There are many good agents out there, but what I will say that it is absolutely ESSENTIAL to choose an agent that you find on http://www.mara.gov.au Using an agent other than those registered with MARA is very risky indeed.

Hi,

If your husband is eligible in this occupation, you need to look carefully at the state lists. A WA nomination would require a 12 month full time job offer from a WA employer; an SA nomination requires him to meet the Supplementary List nomination requirements and NT requires evidence of settlement funds, the amount depending on the number of applicants.

He will be eligible to be sponsored by an employer on a 457 visa if holding a visitor visa without the 8503 condition.
