pickmeup
Hi, I'm on 457 visa has recently lodged 186. As part of my 457 visa requirement I needed to have Health Insurance. Now that I lodged 186, I believe I can apply for Medicare. So the question is, when can I cancel health insurance. Can I cancel it now or have to wait until 186 is approved? Thank you very much. Guest Chewitts
I'm not sure what you will be entitled to on a 186 visa but as far as I know, until your visa is actually granted, you will remain under all the rules of your 457. Ie you need to keep your insurance
MaggieMay24
I believe that once you have Medicare, you can cancel the insurance (since many applicants from UK or other countries that have reciprocal Medicare coverage don't even take out insurance for a 457 visa). But I wasn't sure enough to cancel my own until my 186 was granted.
