Chris InAus
Whats the proper way of buying a car from another state? Do i just go buy the car, have it shipped to me in sydney and then take the form to the dvla equivalent to register it in my name? Any issues to be aware of? Cheers. Still trying to get my head around the huge distances here.
calNgary
We bought ours in Adelaide, drove it back to Brisbane, took it to a Dept of Transport ,had the plates taken off and replaced with QLD ones, paid the fee for transferring it to our name and all done. Quite a simple process really and i think you have 14 days from it arriving in the State to do the above. Cal x

Chris InAus
thats great, thanks guys. when buying the car is there something like a v5c document that the seller gives me to use to register it? sorry for the basic questions.
calNgary
No log book like the UK but the owner should complete a transfer of ownership form (he completes half, you the other half), he should also have the last 'document' the rego sticker came on , unless its very newly registered (they dont issue stickers anymore). Be aware you pay a percentage of the purchase to register it in your name. Cal x
