Hi, I am thinking of making the leap to Oz, my career has come up on the skills wanted list and the money I can make and the life I could live just seems too good to pass up.

My question is, what is it that I have not thought of, obviously there are migratration costs, living costs, what my wages will be, lifestyle changes.

Thanks

Michael

All depends on your situation, if you single and free...then you have little to lose, if you have a wife and kids then its a big decision.

tell us more about your situation>?

Free, single, just bought my own flat so I would rent that, just starting to get into my career in construction.

I have been to Australia about 4-5 years ago so have already done all the major citys on the west cost.

the money I can make ................. seems too good to pass up.

what is it that I have not thought of,..................what my wages will be,

These two bits seem to contradict each other!!!!

Cost of living here is quite a lot higher than many countries, so a perceived increase in wages may be wiped out by this.

I reckon a "quick and dirty" way to work out how much you will be able to afford if you come from the UK, is to take your UK income in £ and multiply it by about 2.5. If you are going to be earning this in AU$ then you will have around about the same standard of living.

So an income of £40,000 in the UK needs to be AU$100,000 to buy a similar lifestyle in my experience.

Passing the skills assessments is something you need to check.

Go go through the points calculation carefully - an over claim can mean a rejection.

Most people find find they need to pass the english test for points. You will need to revise for this.
