189 Visa timeframe

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My girlfriend and I are in Melbourne on a 417 Working Holiday Visa. We have another 8 months remaining (this is our second year), we would like to stay long term and apply for a 189 Skilled Independent Visa. Can anyone tell me if receiving the Visa within the 8 months remaining is a reasonable hope?

I plan to complete the English Language test and Skills Assessment before the end of this month. I would appreciate any advice or comments!

Thanks,

Marty

As long as you can APPLY for the 189 before your WHVs expire, it doesn't matter how long the actual visa processing takes. As soon as you apply for a 189 in Australia, you are granted a Bridging visa that allows you to stay (with the same work rights as your WHV) until a decision is reached on your application. 8 months should be plenty of time to do your English test, get skills assessment, submit an EOI, get an invitation and then lodge a visa application.
