Captain Roberto
Migration agents could be worth it. It depends how much money you have. If you are fairly flush, why not? It's certainly not your biggest outlay involved getting yourself from here to there. We didn't have that money available, so we knew it would be a DIY job and we got on with it. This is a massive generalisation, but if you have what you think is a 'straightforward' case* and are mindful of your budget, it's better to do it yourself. If you have any potential complications or anything you think could be a bit tricky, and agent could be good. * = the only way to know if you have a straightforward case is to start doing a lot of thew work, and learning all about it. By the time you know you have a fairly clear case for getting a visa, you have probably already done two-thirds of the work already...
MaggieMay24
No one will advertise a position as a 457 position. Companies are supposed to consider first Australian citizens or PRs so they won't advertise they are looking for someone on a 457 visa. However some may be willing to sponsor a candidate if they meet the criteria for the position vs. any local candidates taht may have applied. So for a 457 visa, you'd need to apply for a lot of positions and hope you find someone willing to sponsor you. A 190 visa can be a much better option since it doesn't require you to work for any particular employer (on a 457 visa you're tied to the nominating sponsor unless you can find another one or apply for PR). However the 190 visa doesn't come with a job so you have to find that separately.

mungbean
So, my best option is to send out a large amount of resumes to employers? Has anyone got any first hand stories of how they found work I stumbled across this recently... they specifically state whether 457 is available for the jobs. http://skilledmigrantjobs.com/ I guess you've probably seen it already.
