Brilliant news, and very happy for you all :)

I have been reading your posts for a while now as we are in the process of moving back in July 2015 and you have always posted with very good advice so am very happy to hear things are working out well for you. I just wondered if I may ask what industry your DH is in, my hubby is in IT and is worried about job prospects going back (he is less keen to leave Oz but will do so for me) and the nature of your DH's work in your post sounded a bit like my hubby's. Just trying to prove to hubby that he will get another good job in UK, and that things have picked up since we left 7 years ago.

It's all a bit of an emotional roller coaster this moving country malarky isn't it.. excited, scared, excited, scared...

Best of luck to you x

@Miley123 my husband is a consultant specialising in information management and IT. There seems to be a fair amount of work in the UK based on his recent searches, maybe get your DH to sign up for some job alerts from indeed.co.uk et al so he can keep an eye on what's coming through. It does depend on area though, there was very little work for DH in York for example but a reasonable amount in Newcastle.

Excited/scared/excited/scared is exactly how I feel! But I'm confident it will all work out for the best - for all of us MBTTUKers!

While I'm not exactly relaxed about the move (too much packing to do! LOL) having DH's job locked in has given me a sense that "everything will be okay" it boosts your confidence in the move and takes a lot of pressure off.

Hi AA, thanks so much for your reply, yep my hubby does the exact same in IT so good to know there is work about. We are heading back South where we originate from so am hoping the IT hubs around the south will offer him opportunities without having to do the dreaded commute to London.

Ha ha good to know I'm not the only one who is all over the place emotionally. It's so hard to uproot ones family but at the same time I know staying here doesn't feel 'right' anymore, its very difficult to put into words.

Thank you so much for sharing your journey, for those of us following in your footsteps it helps to know we are not alone

Aw thanks @Miley 123 and if you have any questions I might be able to help you with feel free to send me a PM. I have had lots of good advice on here and am keen to pay it forward :-)

@fourcorners we've got lots of fun things planned for our last Christmas/Summer in Aus - next year will be very different!

Thanks MDR, your turn soon!

Sounds like your plans are moving full steam ahead always good to hear.

Curious how did your OH find the responses from employers, I'm assuming here you didn't have an official date for when you were returning.

Still waiting for my citizenship ceremony date, so at the moment not sure which month I'll be heading back.

@darkstone1975 we had to wait for DH's bonus to come through in October before he could apply for anything as it would be helping fund our move. Also, we we had half-decided on a move back in Feb regardless of the job situation, so he was applying knowing we could leave with around six weeks notice (four for him to work his notice and two to get organised) if he did get something and in Feb if not.

I think he applied for eight jobs in all - one direct to a company and the others through jobsites like indeed.co.uk. The one direct to the company was a thanks but no thanks (he didn't have the financial services experience they required), a recruitment agent contacted him about one of the online jobs and he was shortlisted for a Skype interview - they went with another candidate before the interview took place - and for the others he either heard from the recruitment agent who then put him forward and didn't hear anything back, or just didn't hear anything at all. He spoke with a couple of recruitment agents who said that he'd find it a lot easier to find work once he had arrived in the UK. Then of course he landed this job! Just last night another agent contacted him wanting to put him forward for a role and asking when he would be arriving back in the UK so it obviously doesn't put all employers off.

It sounds like you are in a similar situation to us in that there is a date you can't travel before, but you can be fairly flexible after. I guess if you've got a vague idea of when your ceremony will be you can start applying a month out and test the waters. His new employer did want him to start in mid-Jan but was happy for him to start in Feb when we explained we had booked our flights. DH is going to do some remote working for them from here for a week in Jan to show willing.

Congratulations Aunt Agatha such fantastic news for you and your family! I must admit to feeling a bit envious of your feb return date but know that our time will come! I am actually really enjoying the lead up to Christmas. I teach kindergarten so its always fun and hectic! I also think knowing its my last one here is helping, I am appreciating everything that Aus has to offer at this time of year. Hope you have a good one!

Thanks Northern Bird - six weeks and three days until we go! (We depart 31st Jan but we are stopping over in Hong Kong and Dubai on the way back so arrive a bit later than that). Your time will be here before you know it and it's a great idea to just throw yourself into all that Aus has to offer in the meantime. I'm excited for Christmas and looking forward to a couple of special nights out etc. before our big day.

DH handed his notice in today and both he and his boss got a bit teary! He's been so happy in this job and it seems his boss will miss him too. Makes it feel VERY real now he only has four weeks left at work.

Ha ha I can't wait @Chortlepuss!

Bit of an update to my original post. Last week DH had two interview offers from companies he thought weren't interested - so it looks like some just have a longer lead time than others and don't acknowledge the application until interview time. This brings his interview hit-rate up a fair bit so I'd say getting a job - or at least an interview - in the UK from Australia a very real possibility for those looking.

This is indeed exciting news for all of us in IT - Let's hope all the jobs don't get snapped up... How lovely to be returning to such a buoyant market. Exciting times ahead - keep us posted.

The contract market has higher demand than Dec 1998 - this was the peak of Y2K compliance and I never thought it would reach that level of demand again. I am getting almost daily calls about roles.

The general election may have an impact but for now happy days :)

Will do! From what LR says and DH's experience it seems the IT market is pretty lively in the UK at the moment so hopefully you'll have your pick when you get back.
