Importing a Car to Australia - Quick Help Needed

Hi,

I'm in the process of filing an online application for importing a car to Australia. We have owned the car for the past 18 months, but during the past 12 months qualifying period we have taken one 7 day holiday from the UK to Europe where we didn't have use of the car. I'm really concerned whether this will stop the import of the vehicle as we didn't have complete use of it. Any help or guidance on this would be most appreciated.

Thanks, Rich

There is no way it would be a problem, you are allowed to take a holiday.

Even if your mum borrowed it for two months of that 18, it's still in your ownership and not being used for profit.

As long as you didn't sell it and then buy it back during that time.

As for the passport issue, if your passport was swiped through a machine, there would be an electronic trail.........

But, be honest.

Even for citizenship, you are allowed to take a holiday out of Australia during that last year of PR.

  • 4 weeks later...

You will be fine...I worked in Seattle for most of the last 12 months before application. I was there for 2 weeks out of every three....It was not a problem....

As long as you owned the car and it was for your use when yuo were home (and home was the UK), you will be PERFECTLY fine....
