wozzie2202
So my dog has had his rabies jabs..about 4 weeks ago and I know I now need to get the blood sample done....my vet was a little confused as to whether this has to be sent to a specific place for testing or whether it can go to their usual lab. I will engage a pet carrier nearer the time but just want to get all the prelims done now. I'm also assuming that as he's due his annual booster that he's good to get lepto now as well....is there anything else I need to be aware of...have flown my other dogs in the past from Canada to Germany and then Germany to UK, but this seems so much more complicated! Looking to move in around 7-8 months time.
BobPetairUK
Hi. Yes they do need to have the rabies blood sample done and you can get it done any time from now. Your vet does need to send it to a special lab - either Biobest or AHVLA. Most labs your vets will send will just forward the bloods to one of the "official" labs, so it will be ok either way. He is good to get Lepto now also. Anything else let us know

Lu1u
I think dogs need to be boostered with the new nobivac lepto 4 vaccine? But I'm not sure - it covers more types of leptospirosis than the others
BobPetairUK
Lu1u - that is not strictly true. They just need vaccinating against Leptospira Canicola (not the others in L4). Doing the L4 vaccine is not wrong, but not necessary either.
