jameskristie
Does the below mean that there's a possibilty the 2 year period of work will be reduced to 1? Recommendation 15 - Pathways to permanent residence 15.1 That 457 visa holders be required to work for at least two years in Australia before transitioning to the Employer Nomination Scheme or Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme, and that consideration be given to the amount of time required with a nominating employer being at least one year. AJ
The way I read it is that it is still 2 years working in Australia but where as now your employer can sponsor you anytime (but you would need a skills assessment within 2 years) it will mean you have to have worked for the employer for at least 1 year before they can sponsor you even with a skills assessment. Might be wrong though!
MaggieMay24
My interpretation of that recommendation is where visa holders have changed employers on their 457, as long as they have 2 years in total with at least 1 year at the new employer, they would qualify for the TRT. MaggieMay24
These are just recommendations from a committee. It's now up to DIBP to review them to see if they wish to implement any of these changes and if so, when.
