sazza
Hi my family and I are really hoping to take the plunge and move to Australia. However, my brothers occupation as a Barber is not of the SOL but it is on the CSOL as hairdresser. My brother qualified in hairdressing with NVQ but has not worked as a hairdresser and only worked as a barber for the last 14 years. We contacted a migration expert but they state he needs to have all the skills of a women's hairdresser, but he does not meet all the criteria. Has anyone else had similar experiences or anyone that can help. Thanks.

Ozmaniac
I suggest you have an initial consultation with one of the good RMAs who post on here. Under ANZSCO, Barber is listed as a specialisation of Hairdresser which suggests to me that your experience as a barber may be acceptable if you have an NVQ2. Jacaranda
Are NVQ2's recognised in Oz though?
Ozmaniac
Are NVQ2's recognised in Oz though? As I understand it, an NVQ2 is considered to be roughly equivalent to an Australian CERT III. Note that I only said that an NVQ2 may be acceptable and suggested that the OP consult a good RMA for advice.
libbysmum
Hi Sezza, we moved over nearly 3 years ago, my OH applied as a barber only has nvq2 in hairdressing and only ever cut mens hair, we didn't have any problems, so yes it is possible!!
