  1. Hi my family and I are really hoping to take the plunge and move to Australia. However, my brothers occupation as a Barber is not of the SOL but it is on the CSOL as hairdresser. My brother qualified in hairdressing with NVQ but has not worked as a hairdresser and only worked as a barber for the last 14 years. We contacted a migration expert but they state he needs to have all the skills of a women's hairdresser, but he does not meet all the criteria. Has anyone else had similar experiences or anyone that can help. Thanks.
  2. Thanks, so if I went for a skilled migration visa, and was successful, how would I go about getting a job? Would I search for a job myself or through an agency? Sorry for all the questions :err:
  3. It would probably be easier for me to get a visa because I am younger than my husband and English is my first language, where his is polish. But he has scored well on IELTS. However, I want to work part time because of my children. Does the main visa applicant have to work full time? If you are sponsored by the employer then I understand this to be correct?
  4. Thanks for all your replies. The prospect of moving is so huge but we are determined to do it his time. Permanent resisdence is definitely the best for us, thanks for highlighting that. Do I go through the Australian immigration for that? Or use companies such as visa bureau? Sorry if I am being a bit thick, it's just so massive I don't know where to start. Thanks Sara
  5. Hi All, my husband and I have been wanting to make the move to Australia since 2008, so we have decided to take the plunge, and say this is the year that we are going to start applying. I was wondering if you guys could give us some guidance. My husband would be main visa applicant, he is the medical diagnostic radiographer and I am a neonatal nurse. We have 2 young children so I wouldn't start work straight away (maybe 4 weeks) but would like to have a job in place before I move out there, however my hubby would start work straight away. I would like a bit of guidance in what my husband and I should do first. Are we better going through an agency? If so which one is good in dealing with radiography jobs. Should we apply to the AIR (Australian Institute of Radiography) first? Or sort the visa? Also after much deliberation we have decided that we would like to move to a suburb of Sydney. Which a suburb is ideal for young families. Many Thanks, Sara
  6. Thanks to u all for your replies. My brother and his wife managed to sort visa at check-in desk. Panic over. Now they can enjoy their honeymoon  Thanks again.
  7. Thanks for all your responses so far. Unfortunately, according to many websites it states that we can't board the plane without visa being granted - it's linked to the passport apparently. We will however try to. It's just so frustrating that it is now the weekend and all government offices are closed. Really annoyed with ourselves that we didn't do this sooner! We just thought it would be a tick box exercise as it is only a holiday. Unfortunately we haven't booked through a travel agent as we have planned it all ourselves. Thanks again.
  8. Hi please help, we are travelling to Oz on Sunday 2/2/14 from UK for our 3 week honeymoon. Stupidly, we left our visas until the last moment as we were under the impression they were instant. Mine went through straight away, however my wife's is still processing!!! We are both British passport holders with no convictions. So don't understand why hers would be held up. Has anyone else had this problem? We cannot contact anyone as it is now the weekend. We are really stuck and don't know what to do? Can anyone give any advice? Our honeymoon which should be a happy experience and the holiday of a lifetime is turning into a complete nightmare! Thanks in advance.
