One quick question about tax,please. Does everyone have to have an accountant and do own taxes annually or can i humbly count on PAYE to cover me? MARYROSE02 Posted July 23, 2014 Share Posted July 23, 2014 You will have to submit a tax return to the ATO as they don't do PAYE, not yet anyway. You don't need an accountant or a tax agent to do your return, but many people do, because they are, or should be, experts in tax. Their fee is tax deductible and sometimes they will find things that you can claim that you might not know about. It's also handy using an agent because you get more time to put your returns in. I don't know what kind of things you can claim as a nurse? In UK, I guess your tax code is adjusted to take into account, say cost of cleaning your uniform, or buying technical magazines? Here, if you are entitled to it, you put claim on your form, which you can do online. I always do my UK tax return online myself, and always get my accountant to do my Aussie one.
