Ozmaniac
If you've been present in Australia as a permanent resident for periods totalling at least 2 years in the last 5 years, you do not need to show compelling circumstances in order to be granted a 5 year Resident Return visa. I can't look at the online application, but the paper application (Form 1085) asks the question "Have you been present in Australia as a permanent resident or Australian citizen for periods totalling at least 2 years in the last 5 years?" and if you answer YES, you jump over all of the questions relating to 'compelling reasons' and 'substantial ties'. http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1085.pdf Form 1085 By all means consult an agent but make sure it's someone like Go Matilda, or wrussell who are most unlikely to charge you a fortune to provide the information about how simple it is to get an RRV fro someone who has been in Australia on a permanent visa for 2 years out of the previous 5.
