Sustain
Are you moving to Harrogate ? It's a pricey area and very divided into haves and have nots. Looking into it Is not any desirable area? Guess I care less about haves and have nots and just do what I want and associate with who I feel comfortable. Too old and set in my ways to bother with superficial Jones. Quite happy walking and keeping fit.

How far is the Leeds train station from main business district? I'm from Harrogate. I used to find the 36 bus to be very good, probs more reliable than the train, and a 12 month pass was always cheaper. The train gets packed and so sometimes doesn't stop to pick up more passengers from stations like Pannal - annoying if you're stood on the platform waiting for it! Both the train station and bus stops are close to Leeds CBD.
MichaelP
Leeds city station is right in the heart of the CBD or whatever they call it there. I used to use that service - not as far as Harrogate but it was always overcrowded and standing room only. Service was unreliable, often cancelled or just two carriages (not enough space even for standing). Wouldn't want to do it every day, especially in winter. Harrogate is nice in a Hyacinth Bucket sort of way, but VERY expensive for property. Not my cup of tea, (but Bettys cafe and Taylors tea v popular). I preferred Horsforth-Guiseley-Ilkley. Sustain
Thanks regard info on crowded trains. Bus sounds good, can enjoy wine at lunch and relax on journey home.
Naomi from Manchester
There's plenty of nice 'normal' type people in Harrogate too ... It even has a rough area!
Naomi from Manchester
The 36 is quite comfortable for a bus, see here: http://www.harrogatebus.co.uk/36.htm

jasepom
My family moved to starbeck. You can understand my hatred of the place after living in a luxury house in Melbourne. And my wife thinks everything is marvellous living in a sh*tty terrace. OMG to think what we had here.

Sustain
What about Knaresborough @Sustain, I spent many happy days there. The kids would love it. Funny you should mention it as I was perusing the names I thought that area was familiar. The girls are excited about returning to "the motherland" Currently enjoying repeats of "Heart Beat". I think we would be renting for 6 months and touring every village within 100 miles, pub lunches and all that hard work. Given I can work from home the commute is more for me to get out and be social able during work hours. Wife has seen a few houses on Leeds road (not sure what the area would be called) but near a park called the Stray?.

Naomi from Manchester
Wife has seen a few houses on Leeds road (not sure what the area would be called) but near a park called the Stray?. I grew up in a house on a cul de sac off Leeds Rd near The Stray ... My Dad still lives there. The 36 bus goes that way into Leeds so you'd be near a bus stop. That area is Central Harrogate and High Harrogate. Think the edge of The Stray marks the boarder.

I used to venture into Starbeck once a year (bloody inconvenient), to go to the opticians, since the one there was always exceptionally good. Nixon's. Seems to be populated mainly by retired people. Maybe they weren't quite retired 10 yrs ago?! From the Dales to Cairns, eh - Crikey, that's quite a change of scenery. Haze9229
Hi, I am also a Yorkshire girl (moving to Sydney in September). I work in a residential Property solicitors practice in York so also get to see lots of lovely local properties! It's a gorgeous area and lots of lovely little villages between York and Harrogate. Also, Harrogate has just been rated as the happiest place to live in the UK so they must be doing something right!

Naomi from Manchester
Well I don't know about porn (!), but for a largish town I don't think there's too much to worry about by way of crime (family in the local police force). Drink drivers are probs mostly yummy Mummies in Chelsea tractors driven to despair by their comfortable, pointless existence.
