Hi all!!!!

We are new to poms in oz so appreciate any help and advice.

I am currently a registered nurse and due to qualify as a specialist public health nurse/ health visitor in September. I will also have a nurse prescribing qualification. My husband is a qualified joiner and we have 2 boys aged 6 and 3 we are hoping to start our application to Australia pretty soon but I haven't a clue where to start I here so many stories about people choosing the "wrong" agents and spending unnecessary money.

Can anyone offer any advice I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!!

Hi and :ssign18:

I don't have any advice, but I am sure someone will be along shortly, there are quite a few nurses on here that should be able to help. There is also a nurses thread in the career section (i think) which will have loads of advice :wubclub:

Hi Louise and Mark,

There are so many changes going on at the moment with UK nurses registrations, my advise would be to wait a little while and see what happens with AHPRA, the nursing registration body for Oz, UK nurses have been waiting from as far back as last September to get Oz registration in order to work, and, as one of them who has invested over £6K, and now has PR visas for myself and family, the situation is really quite scary.

Check out the threads about AHPRA to give you an idea of what's happening.

Hopefully all will be well, and us UK nurses will start to get regs soon, but I would wait and see before you start paying out thousands!

All the best

Any of the registered migration agents who regularly post on this forum would be able to put you on the right track. All those who have quoted their OMARA registration are ok.

Hello! I'm also a RN and have been working in Australia on a 457 visa for the past few years.

It's not that easy to find work unless you're willing to put in the hard yards like night shifts/early starts etc... Good in that you can pick kids up from school but bad because the last few hours of the shift are so draining.

The regulations are pretty strict and processing is quite slow at AHPRA.

Have you decided which state you want to move to?

Hi Geordiegirl68

Thanks for the advice. Wow I'm shocked I keep getting alsorts of advice from people, some saying it is really quick, a midwife I know qualified last September and was in oz by October!! I've been reading the APHRA thread, I have to say its a little disheartening some of the comments and I am a bit upset with myself as we have been planning to make the move for over 6 years but I wanted to wait until I had my children around my family now I feel I have left it until the process has changed too much :daydreaming:

Sunshine state for you then! :cute:

I'm in Mental Health/Acute Care at a public hospital here in Sydney.

Are you talking about RNs who visit frail/ill in their homes? I believe they're called Home Carers/Community Nurses here.

No I currently work with pregnant mums to be and perform antenatal checks and then perform assessments and reviews on children at individual ages to monitor development progress and safeguarding issues etc...
