nikkib
Not sure this is on the correct thread so please move if necessary. We are flying out in August to move to Newcastle, and my first priority is to find a rental property, so we can then find schools for the kids. We have temporary accommodation booked for 4 weeks. We also need to find jobs once we arrive. As far as i understand it we can't we a rental property without such things as a tax file number or a medicare card. But can you apply for a tax file number or medicare card when you don't have a permanent address? Feel like we are stuck in a catch 22 situation, or am I understanding it wrong. Any advise appreciated. Nikki
3FatCats
I am pretty sure we applied for our medicare and TFN without our rental set up, we may have left our work address or even the temp accommodation. We applied for the TFN online and went into a medicare shop the day we arrived, it was pretty straight forward.
nikkib
Ok so we can apply for the TRN and Medicare with our temp address then change once we have a permanent rental . Thanks very much
Seppo
I jumped on Medicare and ATO for TFN immediately, using my cousin's address, which was my temp address for about 3 weeks. Notified them of permanent address later. No worries, much as 3FC indicated. Address isn't so much a thing, as having all the proper paperwork and docs ready to go.
