ianderrick86
Hello im a 27 year old male from the uk, and i want to emigrate to Australia i would like to do this by myself as i recently had a bad experience while using a migration company in the uk. Im looking at applying for skilled migration subclass (190) i think i have enough points if i complete an ielts test. What i need help with is my trade recognition? im a time served apprentice in the uk with NVQ level 3 in railway signalling engineering NVQ level 2 in preforming engineering operations BTEC national diploma in engineering i want to know if anyone has roughly the same qualifications as me and if they know if they equate to anything, im also studying in uni as well doing a foundation degree in electrical/electronic engineering. Adam Grey
Hi Ian, In very general terms an NVQ 2 would be equivalent to a Cert III and an NVQ lvl 3 would be equivalent to a Cert IV. In order to give you some sound advice people will need to know what occupation you're considering nominating and detail of your previous work experience. ianderrick86
Sorry, my category would be electrician (special class) my work experience has been working for network rail as a signalling technician this mean maintenance, fault finding and renewals on all infrastructure of the railway from point machines, level crossing, signals, track circuits, interlocking and relay rooms. I worked on voltages ranging from 12v ac/dc to 250 v ac/dc. I had to read electrical schematics and also know about mechanical systems as our infrastructure consisted of both. After I left there I work on the motorways helping wire up the gantry and speed cameras, where I was running cables in ducts and joining them, also running in the communication cables. Now I currently work as a multi skilled technician for first great western where I work on different type of locomotives. I'm electrically biased but have to carry out preventive maintenance task on braking systems, engines, electrical and communication systems, air conditioning systems (HVAC) and pneumatic systems. The electrical systems on the trains are 415ac 3 phase, 240v ac, 110v dc. Also work on compressors. How would I go about sending my certificates off to get checked? Adam Grey
Electrician (general) will be the most likely occupation then, in ANZSCO it has a railway signal electrician specialisation. With the information you've given I wouldn't anticipate any issues in meeting the skill level. You'll need to apply to Vetassess under the Offshore Skills Assessment Program. The first step will be an assessment of your qualifications/experience documents and then if successful you will be invited to attend a practical assessment at a centre in the UK. The whole skill assessment process is likely to take in excess of 3 months so be prepared for a bit of frustration in the early stages. As the occupation is on the SOL the likely pathway will be through the Subclass 189 visa, provided you meet all the requisite criteria. Adam Grey
I was thinking electrician general my mate is going through the process with TRA at the moment not vetassess ? How many years have you done in your most recent occupation? I had bad experience with a visa agent before .... Took my money and did nothing !!! A UK passport holder going through as an Electrician for a 189/190 visa has their skills assessed by Vetassess on behalf of TRA. TRA essentially outsourced a lot of trade occupations to them a while back. If your friend is a UK passport holder I'd suggest they contact them ASAP. Applicants from countries not on the OSAP list will still apply through TRA. The majority of agents are sound, there's just a few bad apples that invest more in marketing than they do in providing a service and ruin the hard work everyone else has put into the industry. tards8
Ian, friend of Froggles here! I'm like yourself, I'm a time served electrical maintenance tech from an oil refinery now working at a power station with 4 years experience. I'm currently waiting on my HR references so I can send off my TRA and I'm going for electrician (general)! I have NC, HNC in power system engineering and nvq2&3! I have completed my ielts getting 8s so have enough points to go for the 189 subclass! Sounds to me that electrician (general) would be the one for you! Have you got everything you need for the TRA application (references, pay slips, p60s, qualification certs etc) they all need to be certified by a solicitor! ianderrick86
Hello Andy, I looked at the vetassess website and on there they said that they are not the correct body to assess electrical people?
Adam Grey
An Electrician General who's a UK passport holder (as I assume you are) would have their skills assessed through Vetassess or another TRA approved RTO via the Offshore Skills Assessment Program (OSAP).
