Recommended Posts

Hi I'm Louise and new to this, me and by partner are looking to emigrate next year to Australia i was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on beauty work in Australia and where some of the best places for work would be? Also does anyone know if the qualification i have recognized in Australia it is a NVQ Level 3.

Thanks Louise

As in the UK, anywhere with people will have beauty therapists. I really don't think you need to think too hard about where is the "best place for work", people in one state are no more likely to seek out your services than any other state.

Do you have a visa? If not, that is the thing you should be looking into at the moment, location choices comes second.

No I dont have views on areas in Melbourne as I dont live there, cant abide the place either. Grungy city, not for me. But lets not get side tracked, it is way premature for you to be wondering about areas of Melbourne when you dont have a visa or visa strategy in place yet. Focus on that first. I am not feeling at all optimistic that you will secure a visa on your beauty credentials to be honest, what does your OH do for a living?

Certainly there are some agents we can recommend, but there are some basic eligibility checks you can easily look into yourself and I would recommend that you do that. So firstly are either of your occupations on the skilled occupations lists, you can find these on http://www.immi.gov.au if you search for the SOL and CSOL you will find the lists.

Have a read through, see if you slot into an occupation and note whether it is on the SOL or CSOL. Ideally you would want to be on the SOL, I would take a punt that your occupation won't be unfortunately. If your occupations are on one of the lists, then take a points test, you can also find this on the website I provided link to. You need to get to at least 60 points. It gets more complicated after that, so why don't you do as I suggested and then come back and tell us what you found and we take it from there.

Sponsorship by the way, your chances are remote. Few people can secure this, those that do tend to be in highly specialised occupations like engineering, or they are doctors or nurses or they have moved out to the Australian branch of their existing company. Sponsorship is also likely to be temporary. Skilled migration is a better path and that is what I am referring to above.

My OH is a qualified electrical engineer so is there the possibility of going onto his visa? Im on the website you provided atm i'm not on the SOL list but i'm on the CSOL list as being a beauty salon manager (management level). What other routes do you advise me to go down regarding the applying application.

Ive done a points test its just confusing with the points regarding skilled employment as im not classed as skilled employment, so im not sure if i by pass that question, but alone without answering that question i have got 60 points.

I think focusing on my VISA is the main part atm before living arrangements now i've spoken to yourself.

I know my partner can easily enter Australia with his line of work and qualifications it gets confusing when sorting myself out there are so many websites that tell you different.

I'm imagining going through an agency is the easiest option as they can lead you down the correct path and advice on what visas to apply and not to apply for.

Ok now you are talking. Forget about you, your OH is almost certainly a much better main applicant. Tell him to take the same points test as you and as Blossom said look into the skills assessment as well and see if he can satisfy the criteria.

As for using an agent, yes they can walk you through the process for a couple of grand, but if your case is without complications and you are prepared to put in the effort and read, read read, then you can do it yourself as well.
