andaray
Hello, I am moving out to Melbourne for a year on a years working visa, and would like to know if there's any obstacles I'll face in finding work as a joiner whilst out there?
blossom
I'm not sure if you need licences, but the fact you can only work for six months can put employers off.
andaray
Yeah I guess that can be the case when only having 6months under one employer although my skills can be of good use to any length of project. I was more interested to find out the implications of finding work, I hear you need to undertake a white card application to be involved on construction sites. Really want to know how to approach this??? Any help would be great thanks
Britpop
You can do the white card online, pretty simple but make sure you get the one valid for Victoria. It's multiple choice Heath and safety. The one OH did in loved a telephone segment, not all do, though it only took about 5 mins may be better to find one without to avoid having to pretend to report a fake accident to someone in Australia at 2 am There's lots of work on sites so you may have to keep trying but should find something with relative ease if you're willing to labour briefly and prove your skills if not go straight in as a joiner.
