Guest Guest66881
If you come here on a permanent visa you are required to get a western Australian licence within 3 months.

Ozmaniac
If you are in Australia on a temporary visa of any kind (Student, WHV, 457 etc), you can drive on your overseas licence as long as it is still valid. If you come to Australia on a permanent visa, in every state except Victoria, you must get an Australian licence within 3 months of arrival in Australia (or within 3 months of the visa being granted if it was granted onshore). Victoria gives you 6 months to do the changeover. If you're a Kiwi, you are treated as an interstate driver and can only drive on your NZ licence for 3 months (in every state including Victoria). Beddy
When we arrived 2 years ago in QLD we was told it was 3 months to transfer from Uk to Aus licence .... We transferred within the first month with a temporary address no problems , not sure what we presented as I D but it was very straight forward and easy ..went down to the local office with our Uk licence and and all the ID we had and had no problems.we didn't have to take a test
nic1171
No test in QLD but lots of ID. I changed within first week, the garage I bought my car from wouldn't accept my UK license! Think that's the garage though
fortytwo
If you get a license in one state and then move states do you need to then get another license in your new state?
Katygrace
We got our licence the same week we moved to Melbourne from the UK. No waiting period
Katygrace
You need to roadworthy and rego your car so it can be given a new plate and get a new licence every time you move states. A costly exercise but necessary.
Katygrace
No test in Victoria when applying for a new driving licence.
