189 visa application - a few questions, please help!

Recommended Posts

Dear All,

Thank you in advance for your help.

We have begun the process of applying for our subclass 189 visa and I was wondering if anyone out there who has previously applied can answer some of my questions.....

1) On the on-line application form it shows on the 'Next Steps' section, that the documents to be uploaded are 'recommended'. It then states, please see the 'attachment checklist' for guidance as not all documents may be required. When you click on the 'attachment checklist' link, it fails!!

My question is, do we need to provide all documents if they show as recommended or only if they show as 'required'?

2) Regarding the health checks, I have looked at the recommended list of places that carry out health checks. My husband reckons we can get the blood tests done at our own GP and then only pay for the x rays and examination privately. My view is go to the recommended place and get it all done at the same time. Any thoughts? Also, as I understand it, my children aged 3 and 5 will need their own health examinations but not CXR's or bloods. Is this correct?

3) Does anyone know how long we have to complete the application once it has been started? I read somewhere that we have 60 days but I'm not completely sure.....

4) I'm going to be working as a nurse so I'll need to get extra blood tests completed for hep b and c status, however, my husband is overweight and the guidance states that he MAY have to have extra fasting bloods done. Does anyone know if this is always the case?

I have tried to look all these things up online already without success - hence why I am on here asking you guys! I really appreciate your help in answering my queries.

Thanks again, Jodi

You need to provide the required ones but not the recommended ones..only them if needed..like mine said proof of aussie wrk experience recommended but im not claiming points for that so not attaching any documents for that, u need to get medicals done at specific authorised clinics, you cant use your own gp...your Application starts once u pay the fee and best to upload everything when u can...if anything is missing when you are allocated a case officer they will let you know what is still outstanding and I think give you 28days to provided missing details...I dnt know any other amswers..good luck :)

RE documents, I would upload all you have, better to give them too much than not enough! They will only ask you for more anyway, so you might as well be one step ahead!

RE blood tests, you have to have ALL parts of the medical done with a Panel Doctor. Your normal doctor won't have access to the online DIAC system so they won't accept it.

RE application, yep your invitation expires after 60 days, so you have 60 days to submit a full application.

RE extra bloods, I'm not 100% sure about this one. A friend of mine had to have the extra test for an NZ visa, she didn't 'fail' or anything, she just had to go back after fasting and have some extra tests done. They did cost another $180 though.

Once the Case officer picks up your case then the status changes for documents that are "required". You only need to upload required documents. Then lower down the page a link will appear for creating your Medical reference letter. This letter will be taken with you to an Aussie govt nominated health practice for your medical assessment. In Switzerland we have only two approved medical assessment centres. Your GP is unlikely to be suitable. The immigration site also provides a link to approved med centres in your country. Good luck.
