Mountains...

Trying to decide where to live. Are there any areas that are pretty close to mountains (perhaps 20/30 minute drive) and not too far from the sea (again about 20/30 minutes drive) in Victoria? We have kids so need to be near to good schools too.

Hi Kooky. Some of what you ask has been replied to by Petals. I live close to her, but will expand a little on her reply. From where we live, it is about an hours drive to the Dandenong Ranges, which is an absolutely beautiful area to visit, with many walking tracks. During the Winter months, it sometimes snows up there. We are situated between 2 beautiful bays, Port Philip and Western Port, which both have beautiful beaches. They are a 10 to 15 minute drive from us. We are an hours drive from the city, which has a pretty good night life, and music scene, and plenty of shows throughout the year, as well as many cultural activities. If you are looking for somewhere central between the bays and mountains around Melbourne, you would be looking settling around the Berwick area. Good luck with your search.

The other suggestion I have is Ringwood. Excellent selection of public and private schools, 40 minutes to the city (non peak driving, or train anytime). 30 minutes to teh Dandenong Ranges and a quick freeway drive to Frankston which has good beaches and is the gateway to the Mornington peninsula.
