What's a blue slip?

I'm thinking of buying a bike and places mention a blue slip, what is it?

Is it a safety certificate like an MOT?

Or is it rego? Rego is road tax right?

Do I need separate insurance as well or will my rego give me basic minimal insurance to ride on the road?

Green slip is rego?

Can you fill in rego onine if you have been issued a blue safety slip earlier that day?

From memory, once reggo has expired you get a blue slip done, then hand in plates at RTA and get new reggo (and plates) there and then. If you call the RTA they will put you right.

An interstate registered vehicle may be used temporarily in NSW. The required interstate number plates and labels must be displayed.

If your vehicle is no longer temporarily in NSW, it should be registered in NSW.

Some indications that the vehicle is no longer temporarily in NSW are if the registered operator:

  • Can establish a garage address (where the vehicle is normally kept when not in use) for the vehicle in NSW.
  • Is enrolled to vote on the NSW electoral roll.
  • Is a NSW resident for tax purposes.
  • Has been in NSW for more than 3 months.
  • Has a NSW driver licence.
