carlyanne87 Posted February 13, 2014 Share Posted February 13, 2014 Hi all, relatively new to this but we are waiting for our 190 for Queensland to grant and then beginning the move to Queensland from perth and am seeking advice from people already located there. We have lived here in perth for almost 2 years and have been on a 457 visa. My partner was laid off so done everything we could to lodge our 190 visa before we had to leave the country. We have decided to up and move to Queensland due to the amount of work for my partner and Queensland, so I've heard, is a beautiful place to live. I do love certain things about perth and I'm hoping I feel the same in Queensland. It is just my partner and our two dogs so the move should be quite simple, it's more location and things to do. I would like to be more in the middle of Brisbane and the Gold Coast but don't want to be paying over the odds on rent as we wish to buy once we have been settled in for a while. Just wondering if anyone on here can give me some advice on the areas or anything else for that matter! Carly :-) One of my colleagues did the move in the other direction but is still planning to return to "God's own country" as he calls QLD. Also, if you want to be right in the 'hub' be it ,Brisbane or the Gold Coast finding a rental with 2 dogs will be a lot harder. carlyanne87 Posted February 13, 2014 Author Share Posted February 13, 2014 Thanks Cal, he works as a pipefitter on oil and gas and will be working mostly on FIFO over there. I do have one friend over there who has said we can stay with her until we find a place of our own so we don't have to rush, but obviously don't want to overstay. just looking for a nice quiet ish suburb like we're in now but not to far away from everything for a nice evening out. sprug Posted February 14, 2014 Share Posted February 14, 2014 Yep as Cal says the dogs will make it slightly more difficult as not all rental properties accept them. I suppose the key to the suburb you choose is your preferences - do you like something more rural and leafy looking, or do you want to be closer to the beaches, how close to the city is close enough for you to go on a night out. Obviously the closer you are into the city the higher the rents are. What sorts of leisure activities do you like to do? When you go to the beach do you like it to be more built up and commercialised or quieter. I know this sounds like a lot of questions but by answering these and a few more besides we can get a lot closer to some suburbs that might suit. Feel free to PM me if you need any help. Where we live now we are very close to the beach but 40 mins south of the city. There are a few towns close to us here where we can go for a nice meal or drink. I have looked into a few suburbs that look quite nice, ormeau is one of them, but it's so hard when u don't know what sort of area it is and what's close to there. My friend lives in coomera waters where we will be staying when we first arrive. I also prefer newer builds but isn't a deal breaker. sprug Posted February 15, 2014 Share Posted February 15, 2014 Yes well there are plenty of new builds around that area as the pimpama commera area is a recently built master planned suburb. My husbands says his company helped with the recycled water they have there when they were planning the suburb. I don't know anyone living in ormeau itself other than what I have read but this link gives a bit of info http://www.goldcoastaustralia.com/suburb-ormeau-pimpama.html and profiles such as those found on realestate.com or this one http://www.realestateview.com.au/propertydata/suburb-profile/queensland/ormeau/. The train runs from Ormeau and is about an hours run into Brisbane and the car is about 30-40 minutes outside of peak hours which could easily double that.
