flybyknight
hi all we've been thinking about maybe going back to the UK for a holiday at some point. Is it a paperwork nightmare or can we just travel on our UK passports? I worry we might have trouble getting into the UK, or back into Australia. We are here on 176 visa's. Many thanks
Ozmaniac
If you're still PRs, you are obviously not yet eligible for Australian passports so travelling on your UK passports is your only option. Entering and leaving the UK on a UK passport will not present any difficulty. Your 176s are valid for re-entry to Australia for 5 years from the date of grant. If your 176s are likely to get to the 5 year point while you are outside Australia, you will need Resident Return visas in order to be able to return as PRs. If you have lived in Australia for at least 2 of the last 5 years, you will have no trouble getting 5 year Resident Return visas which will reset your right to enter Australia for another 5 years. If you have lived here for less than 2 years, you should still be able to get 12 months (or worst case, 3 month) RRVs. RRVs are granted very quickly (over the counter I think if you attend a DIBP office in person) or certainly within a couple of days otherwise if you apply in Australia and they only cost $345. http://www.immi.gov.au/Visas/Pages/155-157.aspx Resident Return visas
