priscillagonsalves
Would ACT give us state sponsorship for closed occupation with 50 points. Currently we are residing in Canberra. Can we submit an EOI with 50 points in hand

Can we submit an EOI with 50 points in hand The ACT doesn't provide sponsorship for 489 visas so the 5 points you will get for a 190 nomination won't be enough to get you to 60. If you're living in Canberra, it's possible they may provide sponsorship for a Closed occupation but you will need to find more points from somewhere e.g. IELTS

But is still doing his Master of Business Admin and will complete his course in June. Can we claim points for this degree even though we already have a positive assessment based on his previous Overseas Bachelor's Degree which is equivalent to AQF Associate Degree. Ozmaniac
You can only claim points for one educational qualification but it doesn't need to be related to your nominated occupation or your skills assessment so you can claim for whatever qualification earns the highest points. Of course, he can't claim points for the Masters until he has graduated.
priscillagonsalves
Ozmaniac thanks for your reply but one more silly question. Just for clarity purpose please. So does this mean that once he completes his Master's degree and gets his Master's assessed from Vetassess he can claim those points in addition to the ones he has already been awarded by Vetassess for his qualification and job occupation under the overseas educational qualification and job occupation for CSR Manager. Ozmaniac
He can only claim points for one qualification. If his Masters is assessed as at least equivalent to an Australian Bachelor degree, he can claim 15 points for educational qualifications but that is the maximum he can claim for educational qualifications. He can't claim 15 for the Masters and 10 for his earlier qualification.
priscillagonsalves
ok. He is doing his Masters in Australia only. which means we have a chance to get points for his qualifications once he completes his degree and claim only the points for the job assessments. Ozmaniac
If (and only if) his Masters study in Australia meets the Australian Study Requirement, he can claim an additional 5 points for Australian study qualifications. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/2-year-study.htm The Australian Study Requirement I don't understand what you mean when you say "and claim only the points for the job assessments". Do you mean points for work experience".
priscillagonsalves
Actually we had gotten assessment done through Vetassess for overseas educational qualifications and work experience in the Customer Service Manager category and the assessment was positive only issue was that the educational qualifications were assessed equivalent to Australian AQF Degree and his work experience was 7 years but they only gave us points for 3 years of overseas work experience. We had gotten this assessment done earlier this year but by the time he completed his IELTS in which he got 7.5 in each over all 7.5, the occupation closed in both states. Because he is living and studying in Canberra, ACT, he still has a chance to apply in the closed occupation category but we are points short because ACT does not give sponsorship for 489 and family sponsorship like u had told me earlier is not applicable for occupations on the CSOL occupation list. therefore, we are points short to apply for 190. I have been trying to look for any way to be able to get those 5 points but i cant find any way. This is our situation right now. What is ur advise in this case. Ozmaniac
You said in a previous post that his earlier degree was assessed by VETASSESS as being equivalent to an AQF Associate Degree which is not what you have written in the above post. An Associate Degree is only worth 10 points. If he has 50 points and needs more points, he should do IELTS again and keep doing it until he gets all 8s or better - that will take him to 60 points. Alternatively, if he waits until he has finished his Masters, that should give him 15 points which should take him to 55 points if he only counted 10 for the earlier degree. With 5 points for 190 state sponsorship, that also comes to 60.
priscillagonsalves
Your advise is always very helpful that is why i am requesting your help. You said in a previous post that his earlier degree was assessed by VETASSESS as being equivalent to an AQF Associate Degree - This is correct. We at the moment stand at 50 points. Ozmaniac
The easiest and fastest way to get more points is for him to do IELTS again and get all 8s or better which will give him another 10 points. It isn't easy, but with plenty of preparation and study, it's definitely achievable even for people for whom English is not their first language.
