Travel passes in Sydney for January

Can anyone enlighten me on the best option for us (family of 4, boys will be 4 and 2) for public transport for our trip in January coming…? We want to use the ferries mainly and although we are hiring a car we will be happy to use the trains in from Pymble and then transfer to the ferry etc to “live the experience”, are there weekly passes worth availing of of just pay on the day? Is there an equivalent of the oyster pay as you go here in London?

I did a little research, and the weekly 'MyMulti' ticket for zones 2 and 3 MAY be suitable. I think Pymble is in My Multi 2 zone, and depending on how far you wish to travel, you either get a zone 2 or zone 3 ticket. Kids under 4 travel free and 4-15 is half price. Perhaps if you are using a car some days, then a weekly ticket is the wrong one and you should buy daily tickets. There is an OPAL ticket but it only covers a small part of the network, as it's still under trial (I think.)

The MyMulti tickets cover all transport on Government buses, trains, light rail, & ferries. The ferries are good, but after you've been on them a couple of times, you may become somewhat blase about them! A trip to Manly and back might be enough! From Pymble, you may do most of your travel on the trains.

Look at that website above. I now know that it is the one that covers all forms of public transport. I used to just Google 'Sydney trains' or 'Sydney buses' or 'Sydney ferries' according to which mode I needed. I did actually look up the Parramatta river service to see how to get to Cabarita today.
