P J Hagger
If anyone is moving to the Brisbane area please feel free to make contact. We have emigrated to Bribie Island an hours drive from Brisbane a much cheaper area and a great location with an easy drive to the city to visit the family. I also have started work for a local Real Estate agent so can give you up to date information.

P J Hagger
We found Bribie Island by mistake, fell in love with it and bought a home here. It must be one of the best kept secrets.
Guest hoffer
Be interested in more details on the area? Im moving in January and have hired a relocation agent. The agent is recommending Bayside but it looks like i can not get the sort of house we want for our budget there
P J Hagger
The Bayside area is generally more expensive because of it is proximity to Brisbane. Bribie Island has three distinct areas. Woorim on the east, with beautiful surf beaches and the national park. Ideal for camping and beach driving. Bongaree/Bellara on the west side, opposite the mainland, that adjoins the calm Pummistone Passage. Ideal for all water sports and fishing. Banksia Beach with its Pacific Harbour and Golf complex. New purpose built homes around canals and excellent golf complex. Hope this helps.
Johndoe
As much as I love Bribie, I would recommend that any prospective migrants suss out the commute before first commiting. One road in/out and all that can entail during bad weather/bushfires/traffic accidents
Guest
Pretty much what I was thinking. People in my office sometimes take up to an hour getting back to north lakes, so bribie could be a killer
Guest Guest16631
........it's way over the hour during peak times..... .......the 60limit through ningi ........does cause some congestion...... ........though if you travel out of peak times........it's still about an hour to the city..... .........lovely place though.......depends on what's exceptable to you as a travel time.....! P J Hagger
Compared to the UK and the London run the run in to Brisbane is Bliss!! We been here a year travelling to Brisbane twice a week and have experienced no real hold ups. Now that the motorway has been improved to 3 lanes the traffic seems to flow OK. But take your point any single lane road could have issues on occasions.
Bostick73
Hi there we are moving to Brisbane in January and currently have no idea where we are going to live! Neither of us have jobs yet, nor do we know where are kids will go to school, so this does not help. looking on websites, it seems so expensive to rent. What would you say the average rental is for say a three bed house in a decent area close to Brisbane? the other issue is that our belongings will not get there until about 10 weeks after us, so what are the chances of us finding a house with a washer, fridge and other essentials? could you recommend some websites and is there anything we can do from the uk before we leave here? any help would be great thank you
P J Hagger
Hi, Sorry for the delay. A short break as they say. The nearer to Brisbane rentals are more expensive. Average in the suburbs will be $350-$450. Better areas will command $450-$550. We stayed in holiday weekly rentals when we first came out it worked out cheaper and we were able to shop around. Look at areas like Sandgate Margate Redcliff, commutable to Brisbane on the Train line. I live on Bribie Island which averages $350 - $450 bracket. Great train service from Caboolture to Brisbane. Hope this helps
Xenon4017
is there anything we can do from the uk before we leave here? Look for a job. Identify at least the addresses of potential employers. Most won't make an offer before they've seen you, but you might find that they are concentrated in a small area. That'll help you decide where you'll live. You could stay in short term accommodation which is furnished until your belongings arrive but good ones close to the city can be upwards of $700 per week. Try http://www.shortstaynetwork.com.au/ as a starter. I can also put you in touch with recruitment agents if you need them - what line of work are you in? Fryertuck
Getting a job here is a nightmare, they expect you to have Queensland experience, we've been here 18 months and nothing I mean nothing, the government sacking 16000,00 civils last year killed it, lets be honest Brisbane is named a city, but in theory a small town, rent around $500 a week, food bill $200, plus electric & water, you got to bank on a $1000 a week to live in the Brisbane area, a good car will be $10/15 grand, as for kids we have a 3 year old looking to school him, names have to be down now to get a placement but choosing a school, well good luck with that. The weather is great, friendly people, but unless you get a good job, you'll need to have a salary around $120 to enjoy all that brisbane offers, its very very expensive, but with GOLD COAST and SUNSHINE coast near by, all can be forgiven for a time, but when you have no salary it gets very demanding….good luck.
