which passports to use when goig babk to uk

I know in order to stay in uk you use uk passports when entering but does it matter whether you use uk or Australian passports when departing oz

Departing Australia, you would certainly have to use your Australian passport. There is no visa in your British passport, so you would look like an illegal if you tried to use that. :biggrin:

We visited recently and left here on Aussie and went in on British passport. You just skip the international queues going in on a pommy passport

We used our Aussie ones last year to enter UK - simply because the queue was shorter for international than EU/British passport queues!

As the others have said, Aus requires it's citizens to leave on an Aus passport. I always go in and out on the passport of the relevant country and tend to use my UK one for intermediate countries. If you are intending to stay in UK definitely enter on your UK one or get stamped with a 6 months visitor visa. I doubt they would chase you up but you would technically be registered as an overstayer.

Yes, you do have to use Australian passports to depart Australia - we had to get them just so we could leave!

 

Although since my sons British passport has expired recently it was handy recently on an internal flight to use as his ID.

That's okay if you are staying less than 6 months - you should then leave on your Australian passport too. In the UK citizens can leave on another passport - the rules are different to Australia.
