SkippyChick11
Hi all, We're flying out in Nov and we're now intending on taking our two mountain bikes on the flight with us rather than putting in our movecube (as we're going to have more baggage allowance than first anticipated). We were just after some advice re hydraulic brake fluid in the bikes - ie do you have to drain it etc? Any assistance is appreciated. Ta!

walkerfamily123
We took ours on the plane with us. we didnt drain the hydralic fluid, but we did replace the tyres for new ones so that we didnt have any arguments in the airport. We also scrubbed the bikes beforehand
SkippyChick11
Hi there! We're just going to buy a padded bike bag for each (have a look on ebay) and just check them into over-size luggage at the airport. I've looked up "sporting equipment" on our airline's website and it gives you the acceptable dimensions and requirements. Whereabouts are you on this miserable Cornish day? mxh
No need to drain the hydraulic fluid. Definitely make sure the bikes are clean though, especially the tyres (assuming you don't also go for new ones) You're also supposed to deflate the tyres fully, but if you're running tubeless you'll be fine just deflating until they're a bit soft - it saves breaking the bead. Eng32
Get most the dirt off with a hose then put them in the washing machine! That's what we did, brings them up a treat
