I had an email this morning from a Recruitment Agency advisor thanking me for my enquiry! (I hadn't sent one)

Although I've sent so many in the last few months I could have been sucked In.

The email asked me to click on the link to fill in a form just to ensure they had all my correct details.. (I didn't) I googled the companies name and the website that came up was blank with a message "under construction".

Just thought I'd give others the heads up!

The email looked good and anyone could easily click on the link. I could be wrong about it but something wasnt quite right!

Have you booked your IELTS, Simone Bravemans website with practice papers and marking service is great, I think it helped me a lot. Its not as bad as everybody suggests honest...

Yeah, I've done it twice all ready and missed by half a point on the reading.

I was booked to do it on sat (just gone) but my son had a fall from his scooter and I ended up at urgent care instead. I emailed to explain and asked if I could defer to next test date. I'm hoping they allow me to do that without paying again!

:-)

Thanks for the advice.. Ill look on that site. :-)

Its scary how folks get your details. Even this site remembers where Ive been eg the adverts under the banner are from sites Ive visited recently and items Ive looked at!

Ive found that Nic...it certainly is scary?

Can I ask about your job hunting in Brisbane? Have you secured a job or doing that locally when you arrive? I'm a bit nervous of securing a job as so much sacry press about it..I figure nursing agencies if all else fails till I can get there?

Thanks

AHPRA is driving me crackers...they are taking forever!! I've just received an email from them asking for them to send verified documents which I had already done! How was your experiences with them?

Yeah AHPRA was a bit of a nightmare, they were very strict on the wording in my letter from secondary school so I

had to get another and sent again.

Seems like such along time ago now! Lol... :-)

No I never needed to call them. Mind you, the person dealing with my application only ever replied to my emails on a Monday which meant I'd sometimes need to wait a whole wk for a reply! Drove me a bit crazy!

Then she went in holiday and someone else took over my application and everything seemed to move quickly then and my eligibility came through!

I think it really does just depend who you get!

:-)

How long have u been waiting?

Ive booked with Ashmore Palms holiday village in Gold Coast for first four weeks, will hopefully get rental during that time but Ashmore said I could then book a week by week slot (if available I guess!), I like the look of the Gold Coast but also South of Brisbane. Like you I waited till son doen GCSEs so my priority is to find him a decent school x

six weeks, I was naively believing that all was well and that i was just waiting for eligibilty certificate.

I think the whole waiting patiently for all aspects of the visa, and ahpra is slowly killing me lol....i'm so not patient :)

Fingers crossed I hear soon

I've not heard of fees to be paid be the employee as such, but obviously agencies have to guard against the hospitals that want to skim the best employees from them. Often in the contract with the hospital there is a clause about not cutting out the middleman. So if you work somewhere through the agency, you can't be directly employed there for a certain time period.

My wife works in aged care. There seems to be a insatiable demand for AINs. It isn't the best paid work, and it's a very tough job, which is why they are always looking. They use agencies all the time to fill the gaps left by employee absences. It's a pity when they find someone who can do the work and would like to go full time. They are unable to offer them this.

Looking on the bright side, although aged care isn't paid very well, it will keep the wolf from the door.

Hi Xenon4017

My hubby is currently a AIN here in UK, a health care assistant to be specific...but he's been told that in QLD he will have to complete the Aged Care Cert 3 to get a job as an AIN which is a little unfair as he has an NVQ qualification here and two years experience...does your wife know if thats no longer the case or can he be "working towards it" and still be employed.

I'm a registered Medical Nurse although most of my 20 years of experience is around Acute care of older people in a hospital setting, I'm currently a clinical educator but am happy to go back to working on the wards as an RN to begin with when we move over and keep my eyes peeled for positions to apply for, does your wife know if the needs for RN's in aged care in hospitals are as prevalent as AIN?

Thanks

Guest genorm

If you have answered an advert to a UK based agency, they cannot charge jobseekers fees as it is illegal in the UK.

Also, as a Recruiter, I've spent weeks getting nurses sorted through their AHPRA, application, interviews, offers, etc., only for them to then clear off and work for another hospital.

It works both ways - just saying!

The requirement for Cert 3 isn't universal, nor a legal requirement. My wife doesn't have it, but she works in a private facility. (I say private, but somehow most of the patients are ultimately funded by the public purse). She works casual, but because she's reliable and does the work they've offered her a permanent position, which would then include support to do Cert 4 Aged Care.

Her background is in small medical practices, and she has non-UK qualifications. This meant that the RPL route for EN or RN is difficult. So in addition to working in Aged Care she's studying the full EN course. _Then_ she got offered a job in a small cancer clinic as long as she does a specialised course for this too. Attending the course qualifies her legally to work at the clinic. Clearly her experience is coming across at the interview stage and when working, so employers just want the qualis as a pro forma. Both jobs are part time, so she'll carry on doing both. The advantage about the Aged Care is that because demand is constant (and because they know she's reliable) she can pick and choose her shifts.

From what she says, RNs are also in demand, because they are under the pump too. But there's a lot of demarcation about who can do what. AINs shouldn't do this, only RN are allowed to do that. And also some snobbery about what menial tasks should be left to the "lower grades". As always there's more chiefs than indians, so demand for RN isn't as high as for AINs. But there's no law against you working as AIN too if push comes to shove.

Since your husband has experience (and even foreign qualis) in Aged Care, he would almost certainly get a job. I don't say this lightly, because I hate to give people false hope, but I know for a fact that of the 7 new AINs taken on about 3 months ago, only 2 are still there. Some find better jobs, some don't like the work etc etc. I really pity the shift manager.

Eventually my wife would like to work more in the clinic. It's where her experience lies and she finds it more interesting and, let's face it, working in Aged Care is often dirty and depressing. But, she's valued by both her colleagues and the residents, and it's a job that needs to be done. Australia has a growing geriatric population, so I think that this is a safe job, if not a well paid one.

I'm reluctant to give out details about the institution on line, but if you want to PM me I'm let you know. I'm quite sure that our experiences in this little pocket of QLD are repeated across the country.
