Are you looking for a short-term let? Say 2-4 weeks?

Or a long term let? 6-12 months?

Does it need to be furnished or unfurnished?

Whereabouts in Brisbane? North? South? CBD? Quiet? Lively?

How big? 1 bed? 2 beds?

How much? Money no object? Cheap as possible?

Thanks for a quick response.

1. If a flat and an area is nice we can stay longer 6-12 months otherwise only a couple weeks.

2. It has to be furnished.

3. I will be working in CBD so it has to be there or 10-30 mins from CBD for now.

4. We are interested in both 1 and 2 beds. My wife would like to use one bedroom to do massages and beauty treatments.

5. We are not looking for the cheapest one.

OK, then...

Furnished places tend to be short-term only. And cost much more than unfurnished.

You should be able to rent a short-term, holiday-let type of place from overseas (ie before you get here).

It's impossible to rent a long-term place without viewing it first.

I'd suggest going for a holiday let first. Try here: http://www.stayz.com.au

After a few weeks - and when you know better where you want to be - checkout http://www.realestate.com.au/rent for longer-term lets.

That's what most people do.

But you should be aware that most long-term rentals will be unfurnished.

Thank you for help.

I have one more question. I found many nice flats on craiglist but the price was too good to be true. It looks like some kind of scam. Can anyone confirm it please?

Yes, a scam. They're quite common and the papers here regularly feature young people scammed out of thousands of dollars from these ads.

There are easy to avoid, though. Any place that's well positioned, beautifully furnished and super cheap compared to similar places is going to be a scam. If it sounds too good to be true, then it isn't true.

Only ever rent through legitimate websites (where the accommodation has been vetted or verified first) or through a licensed real estate agent.

  • 1 month later...

Try and find something very central or on the train line at first and then you don't need to worry too much about a car when you arrive.

I like near wooloowin train station and its very convenient
