If you apply with a criminal record for a 676 visa and get it (6 months after the conviction) do you think that it will be a problem when applying for a PR visa in the future? X No. If you have a criminal record, either Australia will decide it doesn't want you on its shores under any circumstances or it will decide it will accept you. If you (or your friend )have racked up prison sentences of 12 months or more then it is a problem - otherwise you are OK. The type of visa doesn't matter.
