Is it required to get a job to apply for the visa 189?

Hi all,

 

It's great to find this helpful forum, lovely to see all these kind people here!

 

Just a very quick but important question: are we requied to get a job before applying for the skilled migration visa 189? this is from the immi website: "have an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list".

 

I'm currently doing a master of teaching course, does this mean I have to find a job as a teacher to be eligible to apply? I believe this is a question confusing many people as well.

Hi, you dont need to have a job to apply for the visa. it just means that you have the qualifications for a job on the sol list. I have just applied successfully for a 189 and am shortly going on a job hunt. good luck. rob

Do you mean as part of the criteria? If so no, this is not an employer related visa. However most people will need work experience in their nominated occupation in order to pass the skills assessment stage.
