medicals

Can anybody enlighten me on exactly when medicals have to take place. I have read somewhere on here that medicals can be done (at a risk) before you actually log your visa. However i have also been told that this is not true as you need your TRN number. so im slightly confused, due to the recent visa charges I would at least know i was going to pass a medical before splashing out on a large base charge. It would be cheaper to lose out on the medical than the base charge. These new charges have really scuppled my plans .. if any one can help i would be most grateful .

Depends on your visa.

I applied for a partner visa and had to take my medical at my CO request 3 months after lodging. It clearly states on my application blurb to not front load (could not have anyways as its all electronic these days and needed a HAP number from CO to be able to book medical.

Be aware, they are only valid for a year and the countdown clock starts ticking once you have it done.

Are you worried you would fail a medical? Big time? Or do you have a minor condition or some such giving you a worry?

I have some health issues but none of them enough to make me worry I'll fail a medical. I was able to provide all the info they needed at the medical anyways and got an A rating on it.

Thanks for your help, I am worried about the medical, again on here a lady called Mary had put a thread on about her passing her medical so i felt better (for a while then started to worry again) I cant afford a migration expert, we have done this all before but it was a temporary visa and i hadnt had cancer, I was diaganosed in 2010 just as we had decided we wanted to return to Adelaide i put a thread on pIA and was told i would have to wait for 5 years until my remission was up, when i spoke to my specialist he said i wasnt in remission, remission only counts if the person is unfortunate to need therapy, he said i am no more a risk of the cancer coming back or acquiring it again than my neighbours etc ( I had a radical hysterectomy and it was gone .....) ( im mentally scarred but i dont have to tell them that ...) my specialist said he would write me a letter to give the panel doctors and i will be ok, i just dont know how it will work, the visa was do able (before the charges) now i have to find the extra for this and just dont have it for an expert. At least i know now to pay upfront for the medicals . thank again

There are some agents that have medical team in house which can assess your medical needs to see if are able to pass medical or not. George Lombard often mentioned regarding medical issues. There was someone not long ago, different medical issues, but Visa Bureau had quoted around £500 for doctor to assess medical issues against Australian Health Requirements to see if could pass the medical, this is only an opinion and not yes will definitely pass or not.

You could contact a RMA, many give initial advice free. Having specialist reports is what you will require, and if your Consultant states that there is not further treatment etc, there may not be an issue, but your medicals will be referred and can take sometime to finalise. It is the future costs of treatment over the next 5 years is what the MOC is concerned about.

Thank you very much for your reply i will look into this further even the visa bureau would be cheaper than losing the full base charge.

Thanks again

I had an issue with my kidneys during a medical for life insurance years ago.... I had test which were inconclusive so I was told a biopsy was the only way to check for sure.... I had a biopsy and nothing was found then the new test showed all normal.... My nephrologist wrote me a letter saying what had been done and I was no more a risk than the next person as all is normal.... My medical was referred for 3 days then passed.... I know it isn't cancer but I'm sure if you have a letter from a specialist stating you are clear as you say you will be fine.... All the best with the medical I hope it works out for you.... I'm sure you have been through enough already but be prepared the visa process is a bumpy ride but well worth the journey....

Thank you for your story CKi it does really help me feel more positive, and your right i have been to hell and back but i see myself as one of the lucky ones so i will deal with the bumpy ride of the visa process (i hope) . Hoff do you mean i can get my overall medicals done at Huddersfield or pay to try and make sure i would pass my medicals. The DIAC website is bringing up Manchester as being the closest Panel Doctors, Huddersfield would be so much nearer to me being in Leeds. Thanks again for your comments everyone.

I don't think anywhere would take a bribe, but they were really nice people, a husband and wife, contact them at the Lindley practise, just google it, they were cheaper as well and you ave your x rays next door. They have a really good reputation, we were advised on here to go to them. Best of luck.

I'm pretty sure you can only use doctors on the panel doctor list they give you these days. Short list it is too.

You can only use the panal doctors on this list now, as everything is done by ehealth. http://www.immi.gov.au/contacts/overseas/u/united-kingdom/panel-doctors.htm

Also it is not the panel doctors will tell you if you pass or fail the medical it is the MOC in Australia that will assess your medicals and tell you if you will pass or fail.

Never knew that, it wasn't like that when we took our medicals, it's a real shame that they were great.
