Finding an employer willing to sponsor

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Apologies if you've seen this post on PerthPoms, just looking for guidance so thought I'd ask on here too...

I'm planning to head back to Perth on a second WHV in September 2013 with a view to finding a 'proper' job and getting sponsored to stay for a couple of years. So I'm wondering if anyone else has any experience of this or any suggestions on where to start?

Have had a look through the SOL and CSOL lists and there are a couple of job titles that I can legitimately do:

-Careers Counsellor/Welfare Worker - 7 years working in welfare to work in the UK

-Training & Development Professional - UK qualifications in delivering adult training

-Restaurant Manager - What I've mainly been doing while in Australia on my first WHV

I also have a PRINCE2 project management qualification and a lot of experience in customer facing roles - many of the job titles listed on the CSOL I have experience in but the ones above are what I feel I can legitimately call myself a specialist in - albeit in the UK.

Any initial guidance or suggestions on extra training that may be useful would be very much appreciated

thanks

L

Ok, well first off, you need a certain level of training or experience for each of the jobs listed. For restaurant manager I believe it is a few years work or a diploma in management.

Each of the jobs has a code. Google that code and it will tell you the minimum experience etc needed. The 457 is easier on the requirements than the perm visas, as you don't need the skills assessment. Some jobs will ask for a degree, or five years experience etc, but for the skills assessment you might need the degree, but the 457 you can get away with the experience.

That sounds like a good place to start! Hospitality is my fallback really, I've done it on and off since I was 15 but in all honesty don't really fancy a career in it, I value my social life! Hopeful that UK quals and experience in careers and employability guidance will be transferable to Australia. I do have a degree too, forgot all about it! Haha! Will get googling the codes and see how I get on. Cheers!
