JoandJon
In that case you'll be eligible for Medicare and public health You'll be able to go public, but will probably still have to pay for scans and some of the blood tests. As soon as you arrive arrange to see a GP so she can get a referral to the maternity service she's after - depends where you are as to how much choice there is Good luck and congrats

DBC
Hi, we're here on a 457 visa, about to be granted PR and I fell pregnant whilst here. I'm going public rather than private and so far we've paid for one blood test (out of 3 I've had done) as that was the DS test. It was $100 ish dollars but we got $45 back through Medicare. I have had both scans done at the hospital that I'm giving birth at and didn't have to pay for either. As has been said, register with a GP when you arrive and they will refer you to a hospital/birthing unit to have your baby. I had my little girl back in the UK (she's 14 months now) and have to say that there is very little difference in the quality of care that I have received here so far so don't worry at all. Congratulations!
