In that case you'll be eligible for Medicare and public health :)

You'll be able to go public, but will probably still have to pay for scans and some of the blood tests.

As soon as you arrive arrange to see a GP so she can get a referral to the maternity service she's after - depends where you are as to how much choice there is :)

Good luck and congrats :)

Hi, we're here on a 457 visa, about to be granted PR and I fell pregnant whilst here. I'm going public rather than private and so far we've paid for one blood test (out of 3 I've had done) as that was the DS test. It was $100 ish dollars but we got $45 back through Medicare. I have had both scans done at the hospital that I'm giving birth at and didn't have to pay for either.

As has been said, register with a GP when you arrive and they will refer you to a hospital/birthing unit to have your baby. I had my little girl back in the UK (she's 14 months now) and have to say that there is very little difference in the quality of care that I have received here so far so don't worry at all.

Congratulations!
